Sonos Multi-Zone Digital Music System

As an audiophile and home theatre enthusiast from way back, I've always been a proponent of hard-wired systems. Racks of equipment feeding multiple sets of speakers through cables large enough to power a 200a service panel. Age and marriage have brought out my sensible side and with technology available today, I can have all the music and video I want with the equipment hidden discretely in a control closet, basement or garage.

For new construction, I'd still opt for a structured wiring solution....an AVA-trix system allows digital audio and video to be distributed and controlled thoughout the house. However, for existing homes, wireless is the way to go....at least as far as music is concerned (wireless HD video is not an option at this time).

Sonos Overview

Sonos is the first wireless, multi-room digital music system that lets you play digital music all over your house—and control it all from the palm of your hand. With a wireless Sonos® Controller in hand, you'll have plug-and-play access to millions of songs—from music services, Internet radio, your personal digital music collection, or all of the above.

And, with Sonos® ZonePlayers in the rooms of your choice, you can play the same song in different rooms, or different songs in different rooms. To start listening, just grab the full-color Controller and simply pick a room, pick a song and hit play.

With a Sonos Digital Music System, you can.....

  • Wirelessly stream digital music and Internet radio, all over your house—in up to 32 rooms.
  • Control all your music in all your rooms from the palm of your hand with a 3.5" full-color LCD screen and scroll wheel.
  • Plug-and-play millions of songs from select music services—no ripping, downloading or PC required.
  • Liberate the digital music that's stored on your PC, Mac or Network Attached Storage box.
  • Play the same song in different rooms or different songs in different rooms. Simultaneously.
  •

    Simple Setup and Installation

You don't need to be a professional installer to set up your Sonos system or a technical wizard to use it. Sonos was designed to work right out of the box. All you need is a high-speed Internet connection and a router to get started. Then, unpack your components, lay them out in your home, and the result will be music to your ears.

    1. Connect your first ZonePlayer to your broadband router. You'll need a high speed cable modem and router to use the Sonos system (or an open access point on a FIOS router/modem combination unit).

    2. Access music from your collection, online or both. You can stream music from online services such as Rhapsody or access your music library from your PC or Network Attached Storage.

    3. Add more ZonePlayers wirelessly. Up to 32 rooms. Choose either the ZP100 for amplified sound or a ZP80 for use with existing amplified audio equipment.

    4. Wirelessly control all your music and all your rooms.

Ultimate Garage can also provide a technician to come to your home or business and professionally install your Sonos music system (local customers only - $125 flat-rate setup fee applies to most installations).
