Prevost Air Couplers

Compressed air is an important utility for any serious home or commercial workshop. Prevost air couplers (both standard and safety models) make it easy to connect your hoses and tools to the air distribution system in your shop.

Standard Couplers - these "push-to-connect" couplers are ideal for connecting your pneumatic tools to the air hose. A simple push of the button on the side of the coupler releases the tool making this an easy "one-hand" operation.

Use "standard couplers" for all impact tools

They can also be used for coupling multiple hoses or connecting your hose to the air source (compressor or wall drop) but care must be taken when disconnecting the hose...always hold the in the hose when disconnecting to prevent hose-whip. Prevost safety couplers are better suited for these applications.

Safety Couplers - these are the couplers that brought the Prevost line to my attention in 1999 after a slight mishap with an air hose and a BMW. Prevost safety couplers are a part of the air distribution systems of any shop I design as they eliminate the chance of personal or property damage due to "hose-whip" in air systems (up to 175psi).

This is a simple but effective 2-stage coupler. The first push of the button on the side of the coupler bleeds the air from the load (the hose and air tool). The second push releases the hose from the coupler. Prevost safety couplers should be used at all wall drops throughout the shop or at the compressor itself if you do not have a plumbed distribution system (eg, portable compressors).

Technical Features

  • Non-Scratch - cylindrical design of high impact composite material with no prominent edges....minimizes the chance of scratching finished surfaces.

  • Lightweight - single stage connectors typically weigh less than 50gr

  • Fully Automatic - push button release system for easy 1-hand operation

  • Leakage Free - o-ring design prevents air leakage when connected or disconnected

  • Safety - cylindrical design with integrated push button prevents accidental disconnection. The circuit cannot be opened without inserting the plug.

  • Flow - approx 29cfm @ 90psi (1/4" flow body) and 71cfm @ 90psi (3/8" flow body)

  • Nitrile seals for leak free connections

  • Stainless Steel spring

Body Size - I stock Prevost standard and safety couplers in both 1/4" and 3/8" flow body sizes. The 1/4" flow size is recommended for the ends of your air hoses for connection to your tools. The 3/8" flow sizes should be used for all wall drops and connections to your compressor. Larger air tools (media blast cabinets, tire machines, irrigation system blowouts, etc) should be connected through larger id hoses with 3/8" body couplers.

  • 1/4" Flow Coupler - 29cfm @ 90psi

  • 3/8" Flow Coupler - 71cfm @ 90psi

Profile - There are at least half a dozen profiles of air fittings and couplers but the most common for multi-purpose applications are the Industrial Interchange, Truflate, ARO 210 and the new Euro High flow profile.

Industrial Interchange couplers are available in 1/4" and 3/8" flow body sizes with a variety thread sizes (Male and female NPT, 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2"). I also stock the male and female plugs that thread into your tools and onto your hoses for connection to these couplers.

ARO 210 "long-nose" couplers are in both standard and safety styles but only in 1/4" flow body size. Truflate and High Flow profiles are also stocked in 1/4" flow sizes with 1/4 or 3/8 NPT male/female connections.

Appearance - the composite bodies have a smooth attractive appearance. Standard bodies are either blue (1/4" flow) or grey (3/8" flow). All safety couplers have a black composite body. There is a tendency for minor cosmetic pitting of the base of these couplers....this has absolutely no effect on function or performance.

Pipe Thread Reference Table

Pipe Thread Size (NPT) does NOT refer to the physical dimension of the pipe or fitting. Please refer to the table below if you're unsure of which size to buy. For example, a 1/4" NPT pipe thread (common air tool fitting size) has an outer diameter of 0.540".

Outside Diameter (OD/inches) Pipe Thread Size (NPT)
5/16 (0.3125) 1/16
13/32 (0.405) 1/8
35/64 (0.540) 1/4
43/64 (0.675) 3/8
27/32 (0.840) 1/2
1-3/64 (1.050) 3/4
1-5/16 (1.315) 1
1-21/32 (1.660) 1-1/4
1-29/32 (1.900) 1-1/2
