1/2" Drive Palm Control Ratchet (S.161) - The S.161 was among the first of Facom's
palm control ratchets, introduced back in the early 90's. It
enabled the user to apply steady pressure in line with the
fastener without switching the ratchet direction. Torque is
transmitted through 17 teeth in mesh for improved load
distribution through the too (up to 225 ft lbs). There are a
total of 72 teeth for precision access, ie, 5 degree
increments...the teeth are heat treated. Satin chrome finish.
In 2002-2003, Facom did a
cosmetic refresh of the ratchet handle, proudly displaying
"FRANCE" as the country of origin in an inset panel
(see photos). A few years later, Facom was purchased by Stanley
Black & Decker and they went back to the old handle (without
country of origin) and production of the ratchet was moved to the
USAG factory in Gemonio, Italy. The S.161 was replaced by the
S.161B in 2017.
The ratchets produced during
this period are in demand by tool collectors. I have 1 left in stock and will include a pair of repair & refresh kits
(S.161RN and S.161C) with each ratchet at no additional cost.
Packaging has been opened and the tools properly lubricated to
eliminate any binding or slippage. Maintenance (cleaning and/or
lubrication) is important with the older fine tooth ratchets as
the grease will harden with lack of use and the tool will not
