Axle Shaft Assembly (Rear)-318i/325e (84-87, w/o ABS*)(GKN box) (alt-33211226329) - Left or Right side. Length is approximately 578mm with the outer joint diameter of 86mm. I have 2 available, both NEW. One is in an orange Lobro box (made in Germany), the other in a grey GKN/Lobro box (made in Spain). The German one did not come with the M22 hex collar nut (# 33411125664) so I included one from stock. Pictures are of the actual GKN/Lobro axle shaft you'll be getting. *Warning - If your E30 is factory-equipped with ABS, using this part number will cause your dashboard ABS light to trigger permanently because the outer joint does not have the sensor ring. For an ABS-equipped vehicle, you will typically need to step up to part number 33211226901 or 33211226600, which feature the 48-tooth reluctor ring.
You can absolutely add an ABS sensor ring (reluctor ring) to a halfshaft, but whether it works cleanly depends entirely on how the outer CV joint housing was machined at the factory. If you are dealing with the BMW E30 non-ABS axle (part number 33211226329), here's what you need to know before attempting it.
The Machining Requirement (The Catch) - ABS tone rings are held in place by an extreme interference press-fit. For a ring to sit securely, the outer metal housing of the CV joint must have a flat, precisely machined mounting lip (or shoulder) for the ring to press onto.
- Best Case Scenario: Some aftermarket axle manufacturers use the exact same outer CV casting mold for both ABS and non-ABS axles. They simply leave the mounting surface bare on non-ABS units. If your halfshaft has this machined shelf, you can drop a ring right on.
- Worst Case Scenario: If the non-ABS outer joint is raw, tapered, or left rough from the casting process, the ring will not sit straight, will not press tightly, and will likely wobble or fly off, destroying your ABS wheel speed sensor.
